T-34/85 with bedspring armour

Gold medal

By: Wonsug Jung

Manufacturer(s): DML

Description: This is a DML 7270 with very little modifications. I just changed the grab handles with copper wire and made transparent lens of the headlight. The fenders are also bent. I replaced metal wire with nylon one. Other PE parts were all included in the kit. I also articulated the suspensions and exchanged spider wheels with the dish wheels from DML T-34/76. The misalignment of the wheels in the construction photo is only temporary. I painted it with Gunze Sangyo Russian Green 2 and handpainted the turret number and line with tamiya white enamel. I finished it with W-N oils and some pigments. The base was made with modelling board block E from Whole Art and individual bricks are cut from cork sheet. The shepherd is from Preiser Luftwaffe crews kit.

Very good photos to go with an excellent model. It’s hard to find fault with this excellent build, the general wear and tear is first rate and fits well with the urban environment, special mention must be made of the suspension, excellent work there. The paint work is very well done, the colour is good and could be made better with some greater tonal variation. The hand painted lines and numbers are very convincing and the bed spring screens look real. The tracks are too metallic and detract from an otherwise realistic model. The dust is well placed for an urban environment but considering the beating this tank has had I would expect to see more scratches and chips. The dog is a very nice analogy for the German situation at that time.

A very clean build, the wheels & tracks following the unevenground is what makes this model stickout & obviously alot of work on the suspension to acheive this. Also the rusty bedsprings (by I.P knightly)& 'Nicking' the edge of the tracks to make them look more like separate links is such great but simple idea too. the basecoat is nicely done & the overall dusty appearance works in with the base,I would have liked the tyres to be matted down paintwise & had dust in the treads on the sides, the rusty Anti-Tank shields are very authentic looking with the rusty weathering applied & on the tracks too. I think having hand painted "'Berlin Stripes" around the turret gives a closer look to the real thing since they were roughly painted anyway. Well Done

A very nice build, especially the work on the suspension / tracks and bedspring armour. The weathering looks convincing and the brick dust is a nice, realistic touch.
