Silver medal

Awarded: Silver

By: Ole Sparenberg

Manufacturer(s): Dragon

Modifications: Armour skirts and exhaust shrouds made from aluminium sheet, handles on the superstructure access doors and cable to the headlight made from copper wire. A thick coat of Humbrol paint was engraved with a needle before it completely dried to represent the Zimmerit. Painting was done with Tamiya paints and weathering with artist's oils and pastels.

Description: This is Jagdtiger chassis number 305004 which is nowadays exhibited at the Bovington Tank Museum in the UK. It is an early production example of this super-heavy, hypertrophic tank-destroyer. Leaving the factory in Juli 1944, it had the Porsche chassis and wore a plain dark yellow camouflage (which maybe turned out rather too dark on my model). All fotos show the tank without the front maschine gun, most likely it never carried one as the vehicle was used for test and trials in Haustenbeck-Sennelager. Possibly it nevertheless saw some combat when the front came near the proving ground and this Jagdtiger was included into the Panzergruppe Kummersdorf. This tanks also lacks the barrel clamp seen on later examples. I chose Jagdtiger 305004 because there are plenty of fotos documenting the camouflage, weathering and equipment of this tank.

Construction is good even if I see a little gap on the back side of the model, between engine deck and rear plate (major gap in the under construction photo). Base color is ok and the zimmerit technique used is new for me. I think that using it you made a zimmerit "field applied", while this tank was depicted in "factory" dress (uniform zimmerit). I like general weathering. The wheels parts in contact with tracks would be benefit of metallic coat. Paolo Capitanio

Excellent build with a lot of research into this particilar vehicle! Could have used a few more in-build shots, but from what I can see, the build is clean with very good application of photo etch. Painting is very good (could use a bit more contrast to the colours with some highlighting). Otherwise a great little build.

Nicely built and well painted. The application of zimmerit is also well done. It would benefit further from stronger depth and shadow around the smaller details, especially for a single colour scheme. The axe head also looks a little on the bright side.
