This is a very nice looking Diorama quite realistic the first thing that strikes me is all the people are evenly spread out & not really interacting with each other (except the boy with his grandad). The figures are suitably dressed & painted. The horses coats look rather flat, a coat of satin would help there. The ground work is well done too, the wall of rocks look over scale though, as are two 2 of the pumpkins in the field. The cobblestone road could do with more shades of different colours like sand & a brick red? The dirt & Grass are great as are the details on the soldiers.

I like this scene and have always wanted to make one just like it myself. You’ve spread the scene out nicely and making the road pass diagonally through the base is a good idea. The wooden fence is very well make and quite realistic and this has created a problem as the pumpkin behind it look over scale and unrealistic -although they are nicely painted. The stone fence on the far side is also over scale and subtracts from the overall impression. The grass and ground work are very impressive and with good natural shades and variations with the exception of the longer weeds along the side of the road, I wouldn’t expect to see them in isolation – which poses the question why is there no other grass around them? The figure (and horse) painting is mostly good with all the details standing out but the contrast between your drybrushing/highlighting and your base colours is too great giving your figures a frosted unrealistic look, toning this down will improve them and add to the sense of realism. In a few places that the base cote coverage is a bit transparent here and there (most notable on the horse). If you don’t have an airbrush buy a spray can of undercoat and give your figures a coat of this as it will provide a good base to work from and help improve base coat coverage especially on soft plastic figures. As has already been mentioned the horses are a bit too matt, horses normally have a tendency towards a slightly shiny coat but this tends to be even shinier after a hard day’s graft pulling artillery, they get very sweaty. Overall this is a nice diorama, and I hope the tips we’ve provided help you onto the next level, keep up the good work.

That’s an interesting diorama. It had a clear subject, though not the cheerful one. The decision to put the road diagonally the base is good, thus making the composition visually more interesting. The central part of your work, the road, came out quite good. The wooden fence is well-made too. But the stone fence is made of over-sized stones. I also don’t like over scaled pumpkins, besides this, they do not interact with the whole scene because of their bright colors. Painting of the figures and the horses isn’t the best side of your work. First of all, try to paint straps more carefully. Try to dilute paints otherwise it will lie roughly. And don’t forget about simple shading/highlighting which will make your work more impressive.
